“Everything you’ve ever wanted is on the other side of fear.” –- George Addair

I’m still trying to muster the courage to go sky diving. Perhaps this quote is the reminder I need!

    • JD says:

      Inspirational quotes work wonders ;)

Skydiving could be one of the best and most exciting events in your life.

I’d probably warm up starting with indoor skydiving.

I’m a fan of calculated risk, too. If I were going skydiving, I would want to know the key dangers, eliminate/reduce the main factors of potential risk, and bet on a tandem instructor with proven skills and experience. Things like:
      – Check the canopy pilot’s track record.
      – Avoid mid-air collisions by flying solo or going tandem
      – Avoid windy days/storms
      – Hang out at the drop zone to get insider info from skydivers on safety tips

Like with most things, human errors are usually behind accidents. Fatalities are extremely low in skydiving and they are most often attributed to experienced skydivers performing aggressive maneuvers that they know are dangerous.

It helps to know that a saying among skydivers is that “Skydiving is safer then walking across a Wal-Mart parking lot.”

      • Katryne says:

Another thing about skydiving is that you are actually more likely to die from being hit in the head with a coconut than skydiving :D

  2. Ragnar says:

“Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.” William James

That’s one of my favorites. But all these are great too. It’s all about finding your own understanding of the quote, and what it means to you. Then you can turn it into a mantra or simply words to live by.

    • JD says:

Nice one — I like that!

I’m a fan of internalizing, and “words to live by” is very much a personal thing.

  3. Juliet says:

    Great list. Thank you JD.

  4. SJ Scott says:

Love these quotes. A few I have heard, A few I haven’t, but all great.

My favorite is Audrey Hepburn’s: Nothing is impossible, the word itself says, ‘I’m possible!

Here is another good one for ya:

The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a man’s determination. -Tommy Lasorda

  5. Dana says:

    Hi JD,

    Loved this.
Just what I needed to read today.

While I enjoyed all of them, this one really stood out…

“When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.” –- Lao Tzu

    • JD says:

      Thank you.

Lao Tzu continues to inspire me on nearly a daily basis. What incredible words of wisdom, with amazing precision.

  6. That is an awesome collection of quotes!! I love the feeling I get after reading them – they absolutely put the fire back in my belly to get out there and make the most of each moment of my life :)

One of my own favorites is:

“Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.”

    – Dale Carnegie

This really inspires me to stay persistent – to keep taking daily actions towards fulfilling my dreams, no matter how far away and crazy those dreams may seem at the time :)

    Michael

  7. Sandra says:

“You can win or you can learn.”

I use this with the occasional disappointment…puts a new perspective on it immediately. :-)

  8. Manish says:

Hi Jd, Quote junkie as i am, i loved this page. I have most of these quotes in my journal and I start off my day reading them to kick start my day.

My favorite one is from Mahatma Gandhi which is not listed here.

“Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

    Thank you JD,
    Manish!

    • JD says:

      Excellent addition, Manish.

Sometimes I wonder if that is THE ultimate quote of all time.

And then I remind myself that it depends on what words you need to hear at any given time, just like “when the student is ready, the master appears.”

One thing is for sure — life’s better with the right words of wisdom.
