Moving On Quotes

Moving On Quotes

Life can hit you hard.  It can feel like a ton of bricks.  Maybe it’s the loss of a job.  Maybe it’s unbelievable news.  Maybe it’s the loss of a loved one.  Maybe it’s a series of unfortunate events.  Maybe it’s your world turned upside down.

Whatever it is, moving on can be tough.  In fact, one of the toughest things in the world, is to move on.  If you’ve ever ever been inconsolable, you know what I mean.

People might tell you, get over it.  They might say, just move on with your life.  You might even want to.  But then you might find yourself stuck.  Or you might find yourself wallowing.  Or you might find yourself numb.

This is where some of the world’s best words come in to play.  Whether you want to make like a phoenix and rise from the ashes, or you want to bounce back after going down for the count, or you simply want to just find a way forward … moving on quotes can be your best friend.

My gift to you is this deep collection of quotes for moving on.  You’ll find insight and inspiration from Bruce Lee, Buddha, Lao Tzu, Gandhi, and more.  Find three quotes from the collection below.  Hold on to them, and play them in your mind, when you need them most.

  1. ershad nozari says:

Reading through this post I thought I had found a favourite quote now and then but I really didn’t. I liked them all!

“The secret of joy is the mastery of pain.”

“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along. You must do the thing you think you cannot do.”

    How beautiful are those?

    Thanks JD.

  2. JD says:

@ Ershad — Those are powerful. I especially like the irony that to know true joy, is to master pain.

I also like the idea that we deal with life better when we learn to expand what we’re capable of.

  3. Great selection of quotes, JD.

    My favs:

“Letting go doesn’t mean that you don’t care about someone anymore. It’s just realizing that the only person you really have control over is yourself.” — Deborah Reber

It really does come down to our own perception and choice, doesn’t it? A good reminder.

“Just keep moving forward and don’t give a shit about what anybody thinks. Do what you have to do for you.” — Johnny Depp

Somehow the cuss word in this one brings life to it :)

  4. JD says:

    @ Davina — Thank you.

Yes, it really does come down to our choices and perception. What I like about that is it’s empowering. Whenever we play the victim or blame, we give our power away.

It sure does, and it keeps it real.

  5. Linda says:

Hi, I am visiting from Roses to Rainbows via Davina’s site. That is quite a compilation of quotes. I have not yet worked my way through them all. Thus far I find several I have used in my “quote of the week series.

I don’t know that I have a favorite, but one that stood out as I began reading through the list is this.

“When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.” — Lao Tzu

I used that one just last month. Sometimes we are the ones holding ourselves back.

    Thank you for sharing these.

  6. JD says:

@ Linda — I, too, am a fan of that quote. It always reminds me of the book, What Got You Here Won’t Get You There, by Marshall Goldsmith.

  7. Zubair Ahmed says:

JD Great quotes just like the rest of your posts,

    Keep it up.

  8. ershad nozari says:

    Hi JD,

My believe is that there is more into “The secret of joy is the mastery of pain.” than irony. But just like art everyone has it’s on interpretation.

    Thanks.

    Ershad

  9. JD says:

    @ Zubair — Thank you.

@ Ershad — There is a lot to be said for self-efficacy. The true beauty of a timeless quote is the fractal nature, or how we can peel through layers like an onion.

  10. Hilary says:

Hi JD .. I catch quotes as I read .. and sadly that part of my memory doesn’t remember them – but it’s great when I read other quotes on people’s blogs .. as I can revisit – and somehow they seem to pop up when we need them.

I have no idea if anyone has said .. but you can’t rewind the video .. so get on with life ahead of you ..

    Great listings .. cheers Hilary

  11. JD says:

@ Hilary — Quotes do have a way of showing up … It’s like that saying, when the student is ready, the teacher appears :)

I really think we improve our effectiveness the more we focus on what we control, and let the rest go.

  12. Michael Belk says:

These are some good quotes. I especially like #2. The part about knowing the difference is awesome. I like your blog.

  13. Kosekwu Innocent says:

This is great. I love this, infact, it’s great.

  14. Nic says:

    Inspirational

  15. Zen says:

depart from evil and do good, seek peace and pursue it.

  16. Roger says:

    Sing as the angels do
    But love not the
    Singing
    And speak to the man
As the voices of the day
A d the voices of the
    Night
