    -Thomas Edison

  3. I LOVE quotes! :) This is great!! Thank you!

  4. Daphne says:

JD, I collect quotes and thought I’d seen almost all the good ones. You’ve given me some more though! The Mary Shelley quote is excellent. “A steady purpose” is what I’ll think about today. Thanks!

  5. Hi J.D.
These are great motivational quotes. My favorite is “There is no such thing as failure. There are only results.” – Tony Robbins
Hope you’re having a great day!
    Giovanna Garcia
Imperfect Action is better than no Action

  6. Wonderful list! My fav is the first one.

My favorite quote is the one Davina Hassell has up on her Shades Of Crimson, life coach site… this one.

“I breathe in the ability to go with the flow. I am filled with the confidence that I will be carried to exactly where I should be. I breathe out my desire to control everyone and everything.”– Monte Farber

    @ Mike

    Those are gems!

You reminded me that Edison really gave me a healthy perspective on trial and error.

    @ Melissa

There’s definitely something sticky about the right words.

    @ Positively Present

Thank you. I think of it as a work in progress, but it’s healthy start.

    @ Daphne

Today was the first time I came across Mary Shelley quote, but I really like it … and it’s so true.

    @ Giovanna

It’s funny how a slight shift in perspective changes everything.

    @ Jannie

Bruce knew how to get his groove on.

I like going with the flow … I think another way to put it is, “roll with the punches.”

  8. “Life is an experiment” – Richard Koch.

“God is watching you – make *his* life fun” – or something like this, I do not know the source of this one…. but i love it a lot ;)

  9. Hi J.D – What a fabulous list. Of those you posted, my favorite is “Do not wait to strike till the iron is hot; but make it hot by striking.” – William B. Sprague

One thing I love about quotes is so much can be said in just a few words. Good ones are always thought provoking and motivational.

  10. J.D. Meier says:

    @ Alik

Life’s an experiment cuts to the chase. I like it.

    @ Barbara

Thank you. Quotes really are a great way to share insight. Especially the sticky ones.

  11. Mark Curphey says:

Better to fail trying that to have never tried at all

Easier to ask forgiveness than permission

There is no dress rehersal for life and you only get one shot at life

  12. Mark Curphey says:

    Oh yeah and this one

No one remembers who came second except the guy who came second

  13. @Mark
I loved another one I heard from you – “aim to the stars, at least you hit the sky”.

  14. I looked at the full list and WOW, I’m impressed. What a project.

I’m normally not into quotes. But I really like “I get knocked down. But I get up again. You’re never going to keep me down.” I love that song.

  15. Patricia says:

I like quotes a great deal because they are short and concise; saying so much. And then when others find different meaning in the quote even better more to ponder and within find delight.

Thank you for sharing – we all need a bit of inspiration

  16. Akshay Bogawat says:

Hi JD, Thanks for sharing the list.
I don’t have a large list of quotes, but some of my favorite are
“It is easy to be brave from a safe distance.”
“In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.”

  17. One of my favorite motivational quotes is….

“When you come to the edge of all the light you have, and must take a step into the darkness of the unknown, believe that one of two things will happen to you: either there will be something solid for you to stand on, or, you will be taught how to fly.” ~ Partrick Overton

  18. Gennaro says:

Love the Thoreau quotation. Rings true. I like: It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves. ~Edmund Hillary

  19. I love quotes. When I find one I like, I’ll often take a walk just to see what all comes from those few words.

Emerson’s “To different minds, the same world is a hell, and a heaven” is a favorite and includes many of the other thoughts. The way I say it is this: Looking across a meadow I can see either weeds or wildflowers.

I like how you think, as evidenced by the quotes you cronicle. I’m bookmarking it……………

  20. Hi JD

Do you look at your quotes daily? Have them up somewhere? I’m interested to hear how you keep the inspiration.

When I face fear in what I’m doing, I say to myself: “Take massive action!” It’s like: take an overdose of fear ;)

    Juliet

  21. Great list! I collect quotes too.

I didn’t see this one on your list, but if I missed it, sorry!

“It is of practical value to learn to like yourself. Since you must spend so much time with yourself you might as well get some satisfaction out of the relationship.” ~ Norman Vincent Peale

    Thanks for the fun read.

  22. JD says:

    @ Mark

You reminded me of some of my favorite quotes, especially life’s not a dress rehearsal.

    @ Vered

So many good quotes come from songs. I should draw more from songs. This weekend, I heard a good quote in Van Halen’s Mine … “Stop looking out. Start looking in. Be your own best friend. Stand up and say, Hey! This is mine”

    @ Patricia

I have a new appreciation for quotes. I realize it’s how we share the wisdsom of the ages.

    @ Akshay

It’s easy to be brave from a safe distance cracks me up. I like that.

    @ Stacey

Nice – I like that! I’m a fan of learning how to fly.

    @ Gennaro

It’s funny how much we can work against our selves.

  23. JD says:

    @ Barb

Thank you. I’m really a fan of standing on the shoulder’s of giants and there’s so many great books, people, and quotes to draw from.

    @ Juliet

I really limit what I do each day. I don’t do daily affirmations or anything daily that loses it’s power over time. It’s sort of like if you have to keep telling yourself something, it must not be true ;)

Instead, I try to leverage quotes Just-In-Time on an as needed basis.

I can say so much on this, but I’ll try to keep it tight. If I need to bootstrap a new habit, I will do it daily in the beginning. Otherwise, I collect insights and learnings as scannable tickler lists. For example, I have a “quotes” list, an “insights” list, … etc.

Basically, I travel light but with quick access to deep insight. I do use a few questions to guide each day. They help me focus, get results, and improve.

    @ Laurie

I haven’t come across that one before, but I like it and it’s so true. The way I think of it is … wherever you go, there you are.

  24. arefin says:

I love you, Dear my Wife, Nusu…
    arefin

  25. vinod says:

    Hi,

    great, i love these quotes.

    Vinod

  26. John Kirkley says:

Hiya JD. Here’s a quote from Satchel Paige, one of my favorite motivational gurus: “Work like you don’t need the money. Love like you’ve never been hurt. Dance like nobody’s watching.”

  27. Gail says:

If you look at me without looking at who I am, then you will never be a part of me, only a part of my selfishness. Leslie Gardner.
