I think it really helps to see the big picture and how things fit together. I like the breadth and depth. The beauty is that it helps create a firm foundation and then it’s a lot easier to find books that go deeper into specific aspects, such as SEO, or marketing, or specific tactics like pay-per-click marketing.

The definitive online marketing book is Success Secrets of the Online Marketing Superstars, by Mitch Meyerson. It will expose just about every proven practice you could possibly use.

@ Sandra — Perfect. I’ll be sharing quite a bit more in the near future. I’ve learned a lot throught trial and error, and I’ve been learning from folks that are great at this.

In the spirit of really figuring it out and helping others in today’s world, I’m considering setting an aggresive goal of earning $1,000 a day online. It will force me to learn the most effective strategies, and then I scan share and scale the expertise.

It will help round things out for you and connect key dots.

That said, I think there is an area where diving much deeper will open even more doors for you. It’s keyword analysis.

It won’t be easy, but it’s worth it. The best keyword training I know is available when you sign up at Site Sell.com. It’s more than keyword training. It’s how to build an online business. It will help you see how to think through supply, demand, competition, money, and trends. You’ll see online business in a new light and you’ll have new tools you can use for the rest of your life.

You have more time ahead of you than behind you, so it’s worth the investment.

One thing to keep in mind on the Web is that you want to be the answer to what people are already searching for. Demand generation is tough and unecessary. Scratch the itches that already exist … and use the terms people already use so they can find you and they know you are relevant.

I too have been reading a number of How To books but I still am not going so well on the marketing side of things.

I think my site Wise Ears is a great resource for professional listening, but I can not seem to get the word out far enough…and just got started on local advertising (tutoring and helping High School kids write essays) and now so many teachers have been let go my ad is one of about 400 on the boards this week. (Plus it is summer vacation)

This happened with most of my attempts. I was making good money reviewing books and now so many do it for free there is no money in it unless one can get folks to purchase off the blog.. ads again

Then the net changes so quickly and though I am resilient – I am slow

I will keep working at it until I figure out what I am to do next…but will add this book to my list.
