“How you spend your morning can often tell you what kind of day you are going to have.” — Lemony Snicket
If you change how you feel when you start your day, you change your results.
Tony Robbins has a simple morning routine he uses to prime his day for peak performance.
His morning routine sets the tone for his entire day.
It’s Tony Robbins’ best morning routine to motivate himself and to generate energy for his day and to wire himself for happiness.
Tony Robbins says he gets angry and frustrated just like anybody else, but he doesn’t stay there.
The difference is he’s wired himself up for a highway to happiness by practicing gratitude.
Effectively, Tony Robbins uses his morning routine to change how he feels and to set the stage to feel good no matter what he’s up against for the day.
And, like any muscle, Tony says his happiness muscle gets stronger with practice.
Tony Robbins’ Morning Routines
Tony Robbins has had various morning routines and rituals:
- ”Hour of Power”
- ”30 Minutes to Thrive”
- ”15 Minutes of Fulfillment”
- ”10-Minute Morning Routine”
In this article, I’m going to walk through Tony Robbin’s 10-Minute Morning Routine.
As Tony Robbins says, “If you don’t have 10 minutes for yourself, you don’t have a life.”
Tony Robbins’ 10-Minute Morning Routine for Peak Performance
Emotion is created by motion. How you move determines how you feel. Tony Robbins doesn’t want to “hope” he feels good.
So, he primes himself with a morning routine for peak performance.
Tony Robbins primes his day by spending 10 minutes on 3 key things:
- 3 Minutes of Gratitude – Tony Robbins spends 3 minutes where he thinks of 3 things that he’s grateful for. He says he doesn’t think of it as “over there”. He really feels his gratitude. The shift in how he feels is what he’s going for.
- 3 Minutes of Prayer – Tony Robbins spends 3 minutes to pray for his family and friends.
- 3 Minutes on the Top 3 Things for Today – Tony Robbins spends 3-minutes to focus on the top 3 things he wants to accomplish for the day.
Before he starts his morning routine, Tony Robbins puts on some music to change his energy. The also creates massive changing in his breathing that also changes how he feels.
He’s done with his morning routine in 10 minutes. Sometimes he goes 20, but his deal is 10 minutes, so he has no excuses.
This way, when he is really pressed for time, he will always make time to find 10 minutes to start his day better, since his entire day depends on it.
When You Feel Gratitude, You Can’t Feel Fear and Anger
Why does Tony Robbins prime his day with gratitude?
When your grateful, you can’t feel worried. You can’t feel anger.
Tony Robbins says:
“When you’re grateful, you can’t be angry. And anger and fear are what screw people up most, in their relationships, in their life, in their business.
So, I wire myself.
Most people want to be happy, but their habit is to be worried, or to be pissed off, or frustrated, or stressed.
So, they have a highway to stress, and they have a dirt road to happiness.
So, I wire myself.
I’ve got a highway to gratitude, which changes all of your emotions.”
How Much Does Priming Your Mind Shape Your Perception?
If you want to perform better for the day, you need to prime yourself.
Priming is where one stimulus alters your thoughts and behaviors to another stimulus.
Effectively, priming is when you are exposed to one thing that can later influence or alter your thoughts or behavior without conscious guidance or intention.
Priming can have a profound impact on how you see the world because it can alter your perception, without you even being aware.
Tony Robbins shares a study that shows us how much priming can alter your thoughts and behaviors:
“They’ve done studied where they have a man walk up to you and say, “Could you hold this for me?”, and hand you a cup of coffee. (it’s an actor)
The person takes it, the actor takes something out of his pocket, takes the cup of coffee back and says, “Thank you.”
100 people they do it with ice coffee.
100 people they do it with hot coffee.
45 minutes later, another actor comes by and says, listen, we’re doing this little test.
For $5 would you read these 3 paragraphs and answer 3 questions?
Most people say yes.
It’s a little story. The questions are about the character, what’s the character like?
80% of the people that got ice coffee, say the person is cold and mean.
81% of the people that got hot coffee, say the person is warm, or gentle, and nice.
That’s how much we can be primed by our environment.
We just think we’re just feeling what we’re feeling, but our environment… if we don’t take control of our environment, it takes control of us.”
